New Theme: A Scorching Summer with Salvador Dali @ LAB Art Studio

Updated: Jul 22, 2022

Have your kids join our super surreal weekly classes inspired by the one and only Salvador Dali! We have a great variety of art + academic classes available, our most popular being Mixed Media and Sculpture for kids as young as 3 to youths as big as 15.

WHO is Salvador Dali?

Salvador Dali was know for being an extraordinary Surrealist artist who painted wild dream-like paintings. He had a funky moustache, and an even crazier mind! Objects would be turned upside down and weirdly melting capturing everything that was only possible in his very imagination. His art had everything from enormous umbrellas, eyes on eggs, to flying tigers, and super tall elephants... the wilder the better!

WHAT will we learn in the summer months:

In July, the kids will focus painting in style of Dali-ism, surrealistic looking melting LAB Friends. They will learn to distort simple shapes, and use a warm colour palette. It is all about blending colours of similar shades and making objects look 3D.

In August, we will be recreating a glittery version of "Ship with Butterfly Sails" or a hot air balloon lifted by butterflies. Kids will learn to paint symmetrically for the butterflies on the sails, and how to put contrasting colours side by side. Some keys points on perspective will be taught for painting the boat or balloon and the foreground.

Here's a look at our LAB-made art projects for July and August:

- We'll study Dali’s most famous “Persistence of Memory" and make it fun with our melting LAB friends!

- Let’s make a “Ship with Butterfly Sails” or "Butterfly Hot Air Balloon" and learn all about surrealist artists’ tricks, how dreamy!

- Let’s sculpt some of Dali’s favourite animals on a melting surface! 🐘 Or a gorgeous plate of butterfly ships? 🦋
